Yin Yoga!

Hello friends!

We are thrilled to announce that our lovely Victoria is bringing Yin yoga to Thrive.

What is Yin yoga?

Yin is a style of yoga practice which evolved as a balance to the traditional Hatha practice.

In Hatha (or Yang) yoga, we move, stretch and breathe; often uniting our movement and breath together in flowing movements and sequences. The physical benefits of the practice primarily involve our muscles. With practice, our muscles grow stronger and more flexible.

In Yin yoga, the focus shifts from the muscles to the deeper connective tissues - fascia, ligaments and joints.

In a Yin yoga class poses are held for longer periods of time - from five to up to twenty minutes!

During this time it is thought that the deeper tissues of the body are nourished and strengthened.

Yin yoga is also thought to move and balance the energy in our bodies. Yin poses are designed to improve the flow of energy through our "meridians" or energy channels, leaving us with improved health and wellness.

The slower pace of Yin yoga and longer hold times allow enough space for teaching, readings, or meditation, making for a truly transformative practice.

Yin yoga is a wonderful complement to a traditional yoga practice or any other vigorous (yang) exercise that we already enjoy.

Come give it a try - your mind, spirit and joints just might thank you!
