Fear Not the Reformer... At First

I hope that our post Fear Not the Cadillac convinced a few of you that the Pilates equipment isn't necessarily scary or intimidating.

Today I think we'll chat about the most versatile piece of Pilates equipment - the Reformer.

Looks harmless, right?

The Reformer, looks much less awe-inspiring than the Cadillac - but this machine is a masterpiece.

I believe the Reformer can find every dang muscle we have. You name it - we can exercise it.

As with the Cadillac, what is remarkable about this equipment is that we can tailor the movement to meet the needs of the individual.

Reformer work can be super gentle - many of the movements are done lying down (how awesome is that?!) or it can be super hard (plank work, anyone?) and every level in between.

I love the Reformer for its ability to help a client progress as they gain strength. The same muscles can be worked with the spine fully supported and safe (lying down) then seated (more core strength required) then kneeling, then standing. Safe, supported progress.

There is a Pilates Reformer routine for everyone. From the athlete to the elder, we all need core strength and healthy joint mechanics.

So, fear not the Reformer ...at first.  Let it help improve strength and mobility but never forget that as you get stronger - the Reformer will keep up!
